Former international Andreas Herzog presents his guide to Austria.
UEFA EURO 2008™ is a truly unique opportunity for both Switzerland and Austria to enhance their image worldwide with up to 7.9 billion viewers expected to watch the finals in 200 countries over the course of no less than 30,000 broadcast hours. That means every wonderful facet of our country will be presented to an international audience - the quaint Tyrolean mountain huts, the Salzburg Festival, the crystal-clear lakes in Carinthia, the Vienna Boys' Choir and the capital's giant ferris wheel. Everyone will be talking about tasty Austrian apricot marmalade as well as our wine and famous local personalities like Mozart and Sigmund Freud. The positive publicity for Austria is worth its weight in gold.
Of course, for every sportsman it's the absolute ultimate achievement to participate in a major final tournament on home soil. Unfortunately it is something I never had the chance to do as a player but I am thrilled to be involved as part of the coaching team. I really hope that we will do our best and that our team will be successful and we wish all our guests - fans and players - a pleasant stay in Austria.
